Default Hybrid Armors

Hey I was thinkin that it would be pretty cool to have armors for each character mixed. It would be like a monk/warrior would have a unique armor just for mo/w
and a monk/mesmer would have a special armor just for that. They can make a unique armor for every possible combination and all the characters would have their own type of uniqueness

That's a wonderful idea. Now, think of something practical.

Count in design time, concept time, cost to pay the workers, the production and modeling time for the outfits, the time it takes to paint the textures, the debugging of model errors, wiring the models, testing them, setting up dyeable portions, checking for clipping errors, and so on.

Now repeat that thirty times for each grade of armor, probably roughly 12 times if there are that many "types" of armor, then double it because there are men and women in the game. Don't forget to add in more combinations for *each* new class upgraded either! That's what, hmm over 700 new models to make?

You're nuts.

I don't feel bad for the GW team then, I feel bad for the WoW team. GW has nothing compared to most mmorpgs in terms of item diversity.

Very true, though the GW team has spent an almost excessive amount of time trying to balance the gameplay.

Hmmm, i actually really like this idea, and i read the other post, w/e... it could be quite do-able. And if they start on things like this now, it wont be so hard if they try to do it when they add even more classes...

Besides, most suggestions make *Perfect* expansion idea's... that way people actually WANT to buy the extra expansions...

I played everquest, and well... those expansions blew nuts for a person like me, i didnt have near enough time to get that far into that game... most of it just added things that i couldnt do/see/use. (Sorry for the comparison, i just don't know many games where there are that many expansions... heh)

And what a GREAT job they've done about it... ive actually played all the classes, and i can say they all ROCK(in terms of equality)... i really love this game, now i just need more character spaces (maybe just two more) so i can mix and match even more combos, since i can change my secondary class, id like to experiment with some more primaries (since i use one char slot for pvp only character...)

What other game can tell you "Choose whatever class you want and have an equal amount of fun!"

Of course some may speculate that certain classes arent fun... but that's just opinions (Remember what those are?)

Which is a good thing. Balanced gameplay is one of the most important factors to making the game enjoyable. Having more armor options is nothing compared to that.

Another important factor of the game is a working economy, which I am beginning to get worried about. I made some suggestions for luxury items to keep money flowing out of the game in another thread. MOst games wait so long they let the economy collapse and then do something STUPID to fix it like making items degenerate. As long as there is something for the rich to DO with their money it will start to flow out of the game. Something that allows for bragging rights or just looks cool. But maybe I will start another thread on this.

Anyway, I still think the response to this guy was too harse. He just suggested an idea---not everybody who plays a game is familiar with all the factors that go into game design?

Why is it that wenever somebody disagrees with somebody else on one of these threads they have to treat them like crap?

Poppin- Oh I agree about the economy. (and yes they did do a great job balancing, it will be nice to see how things evolve with more classes in future expansions)

I think there needs to be more then just items for gold use, though. Minigames, sports, gambling and betting, as well as fancy items, misc items, perhaps even *hobbies* to keep the PVE'er happy and healthy.

Imagine going to a colloseum town, and getting to enter yourself into a gauntlet on the showfloor, or bet on the contendents for a prize. Now THAT would be fun to watch. x3

True. My main goal is to find things that are easy to add at first. Some monuments would be trivial, and the personal statues would not take any new modeling.

This would also take very little new coding.

And since prices would be based on volume (and maybe color ("material") of the statue) this can be an major exit for cash. If guilds get into competitions for having the biggest statues in the best locations the money would just pour out. What's more, it would be fun.

The other ideas I also think are good. I even suggested a casino myself in another thread. But they would take more effort. I think the beginings of the monuments should be put in ASAP before any problems really set in. It is harder to fix something once it is broke than to prevent something from breaking in the first place.

New armor skins that are for just looks but offer no real bonus like the 15k armor suits, that would be nice. However, dual-class armor with advantages for both professions, that I would have to say would unbalance the game.

Why not just add a Gambling system like Diablo2?

Make high level and low level ones, and adjust the money required like the traders.. the more money people put into it, the higher the prices get. Tie it together with Selling items on the merchant and everyone wins. (when the price goes up in the gamble tent, merchants buy items for more money.)

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing a card game in GW. It's an exit for money (buying cards/better/newer), a competitive time sink, something to collect, and its fun too.

I'd be nice if you could walk up to a person in town and play whatever card game it'd be right there.

Ok, to the second poster(i just skipped down to add this) you say that paying 50 bucks for a game that has limited online play(single player with the OPTION of having interactions with other players) is sufficient for having only 6 main classes to choose from, either male or female, and MAYBE 4 different types of armor that you can wear without paying through the nose for better stuff? Customization of your character in this game is horrible. Hair style, skin color, and bodysize. Then you have dye, which is expensive and rare in a drop anyway. I think that this game should have had more along the lines of character individuality seeing as how everyone needs to do the same exact things aside from class-specific quests for skills in order to play the game. It's very linear, in case you haven't noticed. 99.99% of the quests' objectives are within 5 minutes of the town you got them in, with the exception of Cities of Ascalon and hero's journey. PvP is boring IMO because the battles last 5 minutes. the ony real thing that keeps this game fun is interactions in town, which cause most of the problems this game has. I say have at least 10 types of armor for each class, give them similar stats with the exception of a select few with specialized stats like increased energy with a bit less armor(gladiator, tattoos, etc). The only class that has this from what I can see is the elementalist. it's been beaten to death, but it's the truth. I'm sick of having generic player models in pre-searing and post-searing ascalon, with everyone having the same clothing only with color being a determining factor.

why are developers so concerned regarding the Balance of the Game........there's no way you can prevent equality in games.............if they are so concerned players should be only allowed to use a default character for P vs P.......therefore giving a P vs E characters a free roam........

I wouldn't mind seeing more armor that offer the sames stats, but just looks different. If they find its too much work, just make a contest where fans design and program the armor (basically give out the specifications and data type, etc) and in the end have the fans choose the best ones. It could be a weekly thing, and we'd have all these cool armor and A-net wouldn't really have to do much =P.

I also would like to see more headgear, especially wierd headgear.

Yeah, I'm in LA and I'm starting to notice objectives are close to town. When I first got to post searing, an dlooked at the map, I thought "OH WOW ALL THAT SPACE? EEHEHEHE". I hope I'm not entirely wrong, or this is going to be a dissapointment of a game, atleast in PvE respects.

And... 5 minute pvp battles? How sour. They need seige battles over a larger area, or sports like games - such as capture the flag.
